The song of an evening,

She placed her fingers
On her lap,
And closing her eyes,
She started to sing,
The song of an evening,

I know not where from
She inherited that voice,
But her words,
They took and filled the room
Of my heart,
In her song, sparrows I heard,
And her face held the evening unbarred,
An evening cosy, an evening like wine,
I heard her song spreading flowing divine,
And I closed my eyes too,
And Her song of the evening
Filled the room
Of my heart.
